Family Life

At Christ Church there is a wide variety of activities covering many aspects of family life.

Link group singing

Link

Link is a group for parents, carers and under-5s. Link meets each week in term-time on Wednesday mornings from 10:00am to 11:30am. It offers a safe environment for the children and a relaxed and friendly place for parents and carers to chat and enjoy being together.

Outside in the courtyard there are ride-ons & activities for toddlers, indoors there is a hall with toys, play-doh and sometimes crafts. A lounge area provides a space for those with babies & there are also drinks & snacks available. Everyone comes together part way through the morning for a time of singing & then we all help clear-up at the end.

Singing Circle

LF Singing Circle

Singing Circle is a group for pre-school children and their carers. They meet weekly in term-time on Thursday mornings at 10:30am for half an hour of singing followed by half an hour of refreshments and play. Children are encouraged to sing, dance and play with the instruments. £1 donation per family is welcome but not essential.

To find out more please contact the Singing Circle team on kids@cca.uk.net.

Baptism

Baptism

For the children of committed Christians, there is a service of baptism. This service involves giving thanks and praying for the child, as well as:

Statement
The parents making a statement of their belief in God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit, and their acceptance of Jesus Christ as their Saviour and Lord.

Promises
The parents making promises to pray for the child, instruct them in the Christian faith and bring them up within the local church congregation.

Baptism
Baptising the child with water.

Baptism services follow a preparation course of teaching on the Christian faith for the parents. Baptisms take place within a main Sunday morning service. For those interested in a thanksgiving service or a baptism for their child, please contact the Church Office and we will send you our 'Welcoming Children' information pack.

Marriage Course

Marriage Course

We normally run a marriage course each year. This is a series of sessions (Cherish, Connect, Collaborate, Commit) designed to help couples invest in their relationship and build a strong marriage. We will be running the course on Wednesday evenings at 7:30pm from April 26th to May 17th. Please register here.

If you would also value some support or someone to talk through any topics, please contact Paul and Karen Brombley (who host our Marriage Course) on marriagecourse@cca.uk.net.

Marriage Preparartion

Marriage Preparation

We run the Marriage Preparation Course, a series of five sessions to help engaged couples or those exploring the possibility of marriage, to build strong foundations for their future together.

Weddings

Weddings

Christ Church is available to those wanting a Christian wedding in the parish of Abingdon. Please contact the Church Office if you would like your wedding at Christ Church.

Fostering and Adoption

Fostering & Adoption

We have a Home for Good network, which seeks to network and support those involved in fostering and adopting. See our Social Justice page for more details.

CAP Money Course

Money

From time to time we offer the CAP Money Course. It's a revolutionary money management course that teaches people budgeting skills and a simple, cash-based system that really works. This course will help anyone to get more in control of their finances, so they can save, give and prevent debt. The course was devised by the award-winning debt counselling charity Christians Against Poverty. Visit the CAP website for more information.

To find out more about any of these family-related activities, please get in touch with the Church Office via the Contact Us page.
