Over 50s

At Christ Church we have a range of activities for those who are aged 50+.

Older Persons Ministry Leader

Sue Quantick joined the staff team as our Older Persons Ministry Leader in January 2021. Take a look at the interview above to learn a bit more about Sue.

Prime Time ministry for those over 50

Prime Time

Prime Time is an exciting ministry at Christ Church for those who are early retired or older still. There are activities occurring each month throughout the year, including teas, talks, croquet, coffees, meals, garden party, walks, trips and Christmas specials. There is sometimes a group holiday away and also an activity week on site in August. All are welcome.

Thursday Fellowship

Thursday Fellowship

Thursday Fellowship is a caring, supportive group for older people. We meet twice a month, starting with refreshments and time to chat before an informal church service. We celebrate Communion once a term and have lunches twice a term. We pray that everyone who comes will feel welcomed, know God’s love for them individually and grow in faith.

MWM group for men over 55

This is a group for older men (as a guide, those aged 50 and over). We meet monthly, providing an opportunity for men to get to know one another better, to enjoy each other’s company and to encourage mutual support as needs arise. MWM organises visits to places of interest, and these usually include a pub lunch. We also have indoor meetings, which are generally in the afternoon in a group member’s home. Sometimes we have a speaker and at other times we may provide our own content, such as sharing pieces of music or book reviews. Our meetings usually provide opportunities to discuss issues of life and faith.

Gents Who Lunch

Gents Who Lunch

An informal group for men drawn from both the Long Furlong and Northcourt Road sites who are either “between jobs” or retired, plus friends who are not members of Christ Church but have links with us. The group meets for lunch on the third Tuesday of each month (except for December), to develop friendship and share support. We meet at 12:30pm in The Spread Eagle pub on Northcourt Road; the typical lunch cost is £5 - £8. If you would like to join us please contact the Church Office for more details, preferably 1-2 weeks in advance.
